Program Director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy

 

Franklin Pierce University, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Program Director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy in New Hampshire. Franklin Pierce University seeks an exceptional leader that is committed to the profession of Physical Therapy and the inclusive excellence of our students. The new Director for the DPT in NH will join a well-established in-person program that is committed to providing evidence-based educational practice.

 

The Director serves as the program administrator for the entry-level physical therapy program. The Director is responsible for providing effective leadership and adherence to all accreditation standards, including faculty evaluation, professional development, program financial management, and ongoing program assessment. The Director reports to the Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy. This is a 12-month, in person position in Manchester, NH.

 

Responsibilities:

Administrative Leadership:

  • Monitor and maintain all programmatic and regional accreditation standards in conjunction with the Department Chair of Physical Therapy
  • Establish programmatic goals based upon stated mission
  • Establish and assess program outcomes
  • Manage system of program assessment and planning
  • Update, communicate and enforce policies and procedures
  • Prepare accreditation documents as indicated

 

Ensure Adequate Numbers of Qualified Faculty to Achieve Program Goals and Outcomes:

  • Actively participate in recruiting of new faculty
  • Recommend faculty for hire to the Department Chair of Physical Therapy
  • Establish, promote and maintain high standards of performance for faculty in teaching, advising, scholarship and service
  • Evaluate faculty and staff performance annually in collaboration with the Department Chair
  • Collaborate with faculty to establish individual professional goals and development plans in conjunction with employee and institutional needs
  • Recommend changes in faculty contract status to the Department Chair of Physical Therapy
  • Establish and monitor faculty teaching schedule and workload

 

Plans and Administers the Program’s Financial Resources:

  • Establish enrollment and budgetary projections in coordination with the CHNS budget director and the Department Chair of Physical Therapy
  • Identify needs and establish a plan for capital improvements and purchases
  • Manage operations within established budget and available resources
  • Prepare financial reports in collaboration with the Department Chair.

 

Departmental Activity:

  • Actively participate in curriculum planning and assessment: Supervise Curriculum Committee and activities; Ensure compliance with accreditation standards; Appoint faculty to departmental committees and task forces.
  • Participate in admissions planning and selection of candidates: Ensure accurate information is disseminated regarding processes and decisions; Implement faculty participation in recruitment, advising and admissions process.
  • Manage daily operations of the program: Conduct faculty meetings; Supervise support staff; Engage faculty and students in professional activities; Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students; Work toward positive resolution of conflicts or concerns; Engage faculty in strategic planning activities.
  • Actively participate in recruitment and admission activities.

 

Instruction:

  • Teach courses and content within area of expertise and within the required workload as assigned by the Department Chair of Physical Therapy in accordance with the course syllabus and the FPU Faculty Protocol.
  • Continue to update and revise course content and teaching methodology in order to maintain currency and relevance.
  • Maintain familiarity with current texts, materials, teaching aids and techniques relative to courses within the discipline and recommend their adoption when appropriate
  • Actively seek ways to improve instruction

 

Institutional Service:

  • Attend official functions and orientation/faculty development events
  • Participate in full regalia in official graduation ceremonies
  • Actively participate in assisting the College in maintaining standards required for programmatic and regional accreditation

 

Community Service:

  • Serve as a role model with respect to community service and service to the profession
  • Engage students and faculty in student service activities

 

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Maintain a program of personal and professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility
  • Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines
  • In accordance with CAPTE standards, be actively engaged in scholarly work that would enhance the program and the University’s mission

 

Qualifications:

  • Earned doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D, D.Sc);
  • License as a physical therapist in the state of New Hampshire (or eligible and license obtained within 90 days of employment);
  • Senior faculty status (Associate/Full Professor, or Clinical Associate/Clinical Full Professor);
  • Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy education;
  • has a minimum of six years of full time higher education experience with a minimum of three years of full-time experience in a physical therapist education program;
  • Certification in an area of specialization is preferred;
  • Has at least five years of clinical experience;
  • Proven strengths in strategic planning, leadership, budgeting and management;
  • Experience in managing financial resources as well as human resources including student and faculty recruitment and retention;
  • Skilled in creating innovative solutions to problems, work with changing priorities and meet multiple demand and project goals;

 

Incumbents without a terminal degree will be considered provided they are committed to enroll in a doctoral program upon hire.
