Black Academicians in Physical Therapy

Program Overview

The Black Academicians in Physical Therapy program is an eight-month career development program offered by the National Association of Black Physical Therapists. The Black Academicians in PT will provide resources, mentorship, and support. It also strongly emphasizes transferring the knowledge received to potential new black academicians in PT. This concept is derived from the NABPT Each One Teach One Mentorship program. This program was developed specifically with junior faculty members in mind. Junior faculty consists of assistant professors, instructors, and adjunct professors.

Learning Objectives

 

  • Boost a sense of community among black faculty members in PT 
  • Develop and amplify leadership and career development skills identified by participants
  • Create and promote efforts to provide a more inclusive environment
  • Foster research from each participant that leads to promotion and/or tenure

  • Peer Mentoring Throughout the Program

How to Apply

All interested candidates must submit the application form with all components completed. There is no limit to the number of nominations from a PT or PTA program, but final selections will be made to ensure representation across the field and will be limited to 20 individuals. This program is for junior faculty which consists of adjunct faculty, instructors, and assistant professors. The application form consists of four parts:

  1. Candidate information  
  2. Candidate statement 
  3. Reflective Narrative
  4. Candidate CV 
  5. Program Director Letter of Recommendation (link is embedded in the application as well.

Nominations can be made directly by applicants or by Program Directors.

  • Fee $1,000
